Mom: Ugh, Saarinen would be turning over in his grave.
Julia: Whatever, he used orange! Like that's SO different.
Mom: Pink isn't the new orange.

Mom: Oh well, at least when you grow out of your icky pink princess phase, you'll have some nice furniture.

Ah, the Saarinen tulip table.

In a 1956 cover story in Time magazine, Eero Saarinen said he was designing a collection to “clear up the slum of legs in the U.S. home.” Later that year, he completed his Pedestal Table and Tulip Chair Collection and obliterated the “slum” by creating a cast aluminum base inspired by a drop of high-viscosity liquid. These pieces went into production in 1957. (via DWR)

Everyone seems to have a version of it now.

I’m considering buying this Liliac Chiffionier from (where else?) PB Teen. It’s like an armoire, but has the capacity to hold a tv where the shelves are … which is appealing to me, since I’m not the biggest fan of seeing your electronic junk displayed prominently.

I’ve lived with two men before - my ex-fiance Jon and my ex-boyfriend Alex (the former for only six months and the latter for over two years).

After each relationship ended, I found myself re-purchasing some of the stuff we had bought together. BIG mistake.

In order to properly move on, I think it’s really important to draw a line between the “old life” and the “new one” - and to walk into a new home and see all of the same things, or even SOME of the same things (unless it was yours in the first place) - isn’t the best idea.

The memories don’t even have to be bad - it’s just better to start fresh.

My ex and I owned this Paradiso Mink dinnerware set (well, he still does!). They’re inexpensive but don’t look it AT ALL. People always thought they were from some pricey modern store - but they’re from Bed, Bath & Beyond! I just bought the tissue holder from the Jonathan Adler for Bed, Bath & Beyond collection - in addition to the white, which is done in a heavy lacquerware, he offers a gorgeous light blue, a bright lime green, orange, and black. (Of course) I wish he had done pink, but the white will suffice for now. And spending $30 on a tissue box somehow seems justified when you’re getting an Adler piece. ;)
